I want to thank everyone who has given time and effort to the CD - ID project. To those who believed in the idea when it first was planted, and those who have seen it germinate and take root, I extend my deepest appreciation.
We are indebted to the University of Toledo Foundation's Program for Academic Excellence; the Trust for Mutual Understanding; the UT College of Arts and Sciences and Department of Art; the Ohio Arts Council, Arts Innovation Program; the Ohio Humanities Council, a state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Toledo Friends of Photography for their financial support of the CD ID exhibition and complementary activities.
Of course, Cultural Domestication Instinctual Desire an exhibition of Contemporary Czech Art, simply would not be without the talented and inspired artists: Jiří Černický, Milena Dopitová, Zdena Kolečková, Alena Kotzmannová, Jan Mančuška, and Jiří Příhoda. I would also like to extend a message of gratitude to Martina Pachmanová, Exhibition Co-Curator, for her contributions to making this endeavor a reality and a success. Her assistance with scheduling artists' visits and keeping the lines of communication open and flowing were invaluable to myself and the entire project; my sincerest appreciation.
To the essayists, Dr. Michal Kolečk, Dr. Martina Pachmanová, Dr. Richard Putney, Dr. Terry J. Prewitt, and Dr. Mysoon Rizk - your words engage us, enlighten us, and force us to question our artistic, nationalistic, cultural, and yes, even our instinctual beliefs and notions - deep appreciation for sharing your interpretations and insights with us.
To my colleagues in the Department of Art at the University of Toledo for bearing with me throughout this process. Dr. David Guip, Dr. David Stern, Dr. Daniel Watermeier, Dr. Richard Putney and Dr. Joel Lipman for their numerous grant proposal support letters. Donna Hunt and Nora Longsworth for the second-level of editing and all other forms of organizational assistance.
Without the following individuals, many of the behind-the-scenes tasks would not have been accomplished, thank you to the CD-ID Ambassadors: Ani Avanian, Erin Valentine, Andrew Mauer, Debra Bauerschmidt, Shannon Bauerschmidt, Jym Shipman, Kelly Cousins, Andrea Blake, Amber McCoy, Evan Jordan, Tyler Stanley, and Scott Hurley.
I want to extend a special word of appreciation to Barbara Miner for her unconditional support in every way, especially with the CD ID Student Ambassadors. Thanks for believing in me and prodding me along when walking away would have been easier.
To Suzanne Raphael, unending gratitude for the late nights, stolen weekends and iChat discussions, arguments, and general wrangling and banter during the design and layout of the CD ID Web site. You are a consummate professional, my greatest respect and appreciation for your creative and technical contributions to this project.
To Laurie B. Davis for the many, many, hours, days, and weekends spent editing all varieties of writing for the CD - ID project, including grant proposals, essays, PR materials, and Web site copy. Without your clarification of our thoughts this never would have happened. I owe you an enormous debit of gratitude for your professional attention to detail and making us all speak with eloquence. Sincerest thanks from the "comma Queen."
